The YKR Ju-Jitsu school offers courses and private lessons of Ju-Jitsu, Self-Defence and Ginnastica & Movement in Amsterdam. The courses are meant for adults, juniors and kids.
YKR means Yanagi no Ken Ryu, the Willow Sword School: the body and the mind should be strong like a sword and flexible like a willow.
Besides the health benefits of a physical activity, a traditional martial art helps people to build up self-confidence, discipline and persistence. Mastering a martial art doesn’t mean mastering a weapon against an opponent, it means mastering your mind and consequently your body. A martial artist should aim to a state of mind called mushin, which means no mind, where the final technique is to be able to spread such a level of peace and harmony that the fight ends before starting.
Ginnastica & Movement indicates a variety of exercises involving sequences of movements that generally require strength, elasticity, and kinesthetic ability (so-called coordination). It is a perfect exercise to harmonise the body and it can be practiced as a complementary course for martial artists.
There is a difference between a fighter and a martial artist. A fighter is training for a purpose: He has a fight. I’m a martial artist. I don’t train for a fight. I train for myself. I’m training all the time. My goal is perfection. But I will never reach perfection.
